Senior Moments....Anchored in Faith
Relax and enjoy because after you read these tender words, you will no longer feel old, but blessed!
Borrowed from Jane Griz Jones-Sevierville, TN
Have you ever noticed how many euphemisms are applied to aging? For example, we, who are in our "golden" years are past the age of sixty and pushing seventy and referred to as "Senior Citizens" or "Mature Adults." When you are being served in a restaurant, do they ask, "What else can I get you, Sweetie?" That is just another way of referring to us as "seniors". People intend to be kind to us "old folks". They just don't realize that "It takes time to be holy," and we just might reply that we aren't their Sweetie.
I firmly believe that humor is the best way to enjoy the aging process. When we laugh at ourselves, the journey becomes more exciting. We can't wait to experience our next blunder because that gives us something to laugh about with our friends, and I'm sure our enemies would get a chuckle our of our experience also. Just remember to be the first one to laugh.
We all talk about our "Senior Moments". We forget names and we can't find articles that we have put in a safe place. . Frankly, I have done things like this ever since I can remember - and of course, I remember. I am beginning to realize that now we can blame every dumb thing that we do on our age. Before, we were just preoccupied.
Have you noticed how we think about other people our age or older? We think of them as old, but for some reason, we feel much younger even though we are practically the same age. Why is that?
While talking to a younger friend of mine, I made the remark, "I don't know how I will handle that when I get old? I guess I had to face reality when my friend remarked, "But Jane, you ARE old." We laughed, but I realized that actually I was as old as the person we were discussing.
We never really change "on the inside". Our bodies are a reminder. When we are young, we want to be master of our fate and captain of our soul. When we are old, we will be happy if we can just be the master of our weight!
When we apply the teachings of the Bible to our present experiences, we realize that God has given us precious promises that we can depend on, and we need to demonstrate their truth for His glory.
Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He; I am He who will sustain you: I have made you and I will carry you: I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
Isaiah 46:4
They will still bear fruit in old age, They will stay fresh and green, Proclaiming, "The Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in Him."
Psalms 92:14-15
We need not feel intimidated during this season of our life because the Bible also tells us that we are wise:
Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?
Job 12:12-13
Isn't it wonderful to know that God is able to use any of His people regardless of age? Maturity, wisdom, and graciousness which often accompany old age are among the most valuable assets in our society and churches. Are you willing to give God permission to use you? Don't feel old.....feel blessed! Anchored in Jesus!
